During your stay in Formentera we recommend a visit to the nature reserve of Ses Illetes, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, the beach of Es Pujols in the middle of the island nightlife and the beach of Mitjorn with its characteristic walk through the dunes. Another charming beach is Cala Saona, nestled between red rocks where you can watch the sun setting on the horizon.
Don’t forget a visit to the Mola plateau, cradle of the first hippy communities in Europe in the seventies, where you can visit the famous hippy market on Wednesdays and Sundays every week.
On the eastern promontory of the plateau we find the Mola lighthouse which, together with the other lighthouse of Cap de Barbaria located in the south-west, are two important landmarks for sailing in the Mediterranean with an exciting panorama of cliffs overlooking the sea.
The capital Sant Francesc Xavier, with its characteristic white houses, is home to numerous small shops, restaurants, craft shops and boutiques. Not to be missed is the morning appointment for breakfast in the bars surrounding the central square.
For those who love shopping, from May to mid-October, the island hosts numerous craft stalls where you can buy clothes, jewellery, leather or glass objects, wicker baskets, espadrilles, paintings and other local handicrafts. Double weekly appointment, on Wednesday and Sunday, at the village of La Mola for the classic hippy market, where you can listen to good music and relive the atmosphere of the flower children.
